How can I search the library databases?

How do I get a library card?

Students taking Jefferson College credit classes use their Jefferson College Student ID as their library card. Student ID cards, validated for the current semester, are required when checking out any library material. For your convenience, the library staff may issue your Jefferson College Student ID at the Circulation Desk on the first floor of the Hillsboro Library.  Go to the front desk at the Arnold, Northwest and Imperial campus sites to request a Student ID.

Jefferson County residents age 18 and older may obtain a library card for a fee of $15.00 per year and the card is non-transferable. The community card is free for seniors 65+. A valid photo ID and proof of residence within Jefferson County is required. Please visit the Circulation Desk at the library in Hillsboro to obtain a valid library card.

How can I reserve a study room?

The library in Hillsboro offers several different types of study rooms and areas. These rooms may be reserved by utilizing the library's Libcal system here. This may be done from home, at the library computers, or at the iPad stations located on the first and second floor of the library. Once reserved, a key as well as markers, wireless keyboards and mice, and other materials will need to be checked out at the circulation desk. Those who utilize study rooms will be required to fill out a Study Room Agreement once per semester. Collaborative study rooms and areas are generally found on the first floor, while smaller rooms and areas for quiet study are located on the second floor.  For the consideration of others, no talking is allowed on the second floor.

Can non-students apply for a library card?

Jefferson County residents age 18 and older may obtain a library card for a fee of $15.00 per year and the card is non-transferable. A valid photo ID and proof of residence within Jefferson County is required. Residents age 65 and older qualify for a free card. Community cardholders are limited to checking out 20 items at one time. The Library reserves the right to limit the number of items that may be checked out by community card holders so that sufficient resources are available for Jefferson College students. Requests for interlibrary loan will be charged fees to cover postage. The Library reserves the right to limit the number of interlibrary loan items patrons may request.

How can I renew an item?

  • Go to the Archway catalog
  • Select 'My Library Account' at the top right of the page
  • Login using your name and v# with jc at the end (e.g. v00022022jc)
  • All your checked out items should be visible in the middle of the window.
  • Click the check box next to each item you want to renew, and select renew.
  • The new due date will appear next to your item.
  • If the item cannot be renewed, please return it to the library.

How can I check the status of a MOBIUS request?

You can check the status of a MOBIUS request in several ways. You may contact the circulation desk at the library at (636) 481- 3166 to inquire, or you can log in to your personal account by following these steps:

  • Go to the Archway catalog
  • Select 'My Library Account' at the top right of the page
  • Login using your name and v# with jc at the end (e.g. v00022022jc)
  • Select my holds on the top left.
  • Your requested items should be visible in the middle of the screen. Under the heading 'status' you will see one of several listed statuses. 'MOBIUS REQUEST' means that the item has just been requested, and is awaiting action at its parent library. 'MOBIUS SENT', 'IN TRANSIT' indicate that the book has been processed and is on its way to your designated library. 'MOBIUS RECEIVED' indicates that the book is on the holdshelf waiting for you to come check it out.
  • When your book or item arrives, you will get an email or phone call letting you know that it is ready to pickup.
  • Make sure to bring your Jeffco ID to check the item out.

Can I borrow a laptop?

Yes, there are Windows laptops available for checkout at the library in Hillsboro as well as Chromebooks running Chrome OS.  Patrons must sign an Electornics Agreement prior to checkout. Students will be held responsible for any late fines and damage fees that may be incurred.

The book drop at the library in Hillsboro is located on the east side of the library, facing Highway 21. There is also a bookdrop in ASI on the first floor across from ASI 119.

What geneaology resources are available at the library?

The Jefferson College History Center includes probate records, wills, county tax records, county school records, judicial and circuit cour records, family histories, city and town histories, and much more. The documents are accessible to the public for genealogical and historical research by appointment. You can find more information here.
